  • 'Now it's curtains for bacteria' says SMI

Following five years of research a huge hygiene breakthrough has been achieved by Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI).  Bio-Gard enriched with SteriTouch is a plastic strip curtain that kills 99.99% of illness causing pathogenic bacteria including MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella. Significantly the curtain does not lose efficacy over time and the bacteria killing property is active throughout the matrix of the material. This means it works even if the curtain is cut or damaged.

Seymour MI appoints sole Irish distributor for Tempro® Products

Following a sole distributor agreement between Seymour Manufacturing International, Telford, Shropshire and The Cross Refrigeration Group Of Companies, SMI’s extremely successful Cold Stop freezer and cold room insulated door curtains will now be available throughout the Republic and Northern Ireland from a single source.  As the market grows in Ireland, as no doubt it will in The Cross Group’s capable hands, other products from Seymour’s extensive Tempro® range of products will be added to the portfolio.

Commenting on the agreement, Brian Seymour, SMI Chairman said that his company was delighted to be associated with such a well-established and well-respected company in Ireland. “We are sure that their expertise and reputation in the refrigeration business will see a sharp increase in Cold Stop applications in Ireland over a short period”, he added.

Cross Refrigeration Group Managing Director, Andrew Nesbitt, said that they were almost starting from scratch with Cold Stop but due to its advantages over traditional products, they were sure it will take off as it has in the UK.  Other SMI Tempro® food chain products would follow.

What is Cold Stop?

One of the biggest problems cold store and freezer users face is that of needing to gain frequent trolley access easily without having to slide a heavy door.  The traditional solution has always been to fit a transparent plastic strip curtain.   Unfortunately, these are not good insulators and can suffer from damage and condensation, which drips off the bottom and freezes on the floor, causing a slip hazard.

Cold Stop® curtains, patented by SMI provide a revolutionary alternative to plastic strip curtains used in many cold rooms.  The curtain is based on Tempro® which provides insulation properties far greater than standard types, and resultant energy reductions.  Floor ice and its associated hazard is eliminated.

With SMI’s unique ‘cold lock’ system, the curtains fit neatly and effectively to the door head and floor, saving costly energy -- up to 25% in chill stores and 33% in freezers The curtains are soft and user friendly and use an SMI patented header arrangement that is a design and efficiency breakthrough.

Due to its high thermal efficiency, Cold Stop dramatically reduces cold room energy consumption by allowing optimum settings on evaporator equipment to achieve the internal working temperature for less energy. Cold Stop was the first system to be accepted by the Carbon Trust as a designated product for an enhanced capital allowances scheme in the UK.
