  • 'Now it's curtains for bacteria' says SMI

Following five years of research a huge hygiene breakthrough has been achieved by Seymour Manufacturing International (SMI).  Bio-Gard enriched with SteriTouch is a plastic strip curtain that kills 99.99% of illness causing pathogenic bacteria including MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella. Significantly the curtain does not lose efficacy over time and the bacteria killing property is active throughout the matrix of the material. This means it works even if the curtain is cut or damaged.

New doors from SMI

New doors from SMI open the way to save more energy and reduce maintenance costs

SMI's three new doors, Green Door, Lean Door, and Clean Door have been designed for broad application but are primarily for energy saving use in the food retail and processing sectors.

The Green Door (which is blue!) fulfils SMI’s policy of determination to supply the most energy saving door with the longest life and minimum servicing requirement.  This will result in the most cost effective thermal, personnel door on the market.

The Green Door which can be single or twin leaf with its split frame module incorporates a unique SMI aluminium extruded profile and gasket system that prevents thermal bridging.  SMI’s patented Tempro is integrated to provide thermal protection and, as well as adjustable swing-through hinges, each Tempro panel has a clear see-through window.  Each door is fitted both back and front with high impact buffers to avoid wear.

Lean Doors are versatile single or double-leafed swing units designed for chill storage. The doors have multiple uses in food and non-food sectors facilitated by their sturdy modular construction with interchangeable components.  The basic door has a robust 6.5mm thick pure PVC leaf for temperatures between 2 and 6deg C and fitted with oversize leaf panels that can be cut to the exact size of the door surround to minimize energy loss.

The Clean Door is a hard wearing unit that suits all environments where doors are required to maintain the highest possible hygiene standards.  At the same time they are extremely resistant to rough wear and abuse being constructed of high impact fibreglass-reinforced polyester insulated with pressurised CFC-free polyurethane foam.  The doors are easily assembled on a split frame module system and supplied single or double in a frame of natural anodised aluminium, stainless steel or a varnished finish. Applications range from supermarkets through laboratories and pharmaceutical production sites to hospitals, chemical plants and catering establishments.

Commenting on SMI’s success at the show, Chairman Brian Seymour said that the intensive research into the products to provide the best possible solution to energy saving, service costs and longevity was more than rewarded by the overwhelming interest expressed by all sectors of the food industry.

“The low temperature Finger Tip protector to comply with health and safety was also of great interest to visitors who were surprised at the ease the doors could be opened and yet return to their correct position for maximum energy saving” he added.
