Lifting heavy objects above the head is the requirement of weightlifters, not operatives stacking supermarket shelves or other retail stocking facilities say the Health and Safety Executive. To help retailers comply with the regulations and ensure that shelf fillers do not lift goods above shoulder height, Seymour Manufacturing International, Telford, Shropshire has developed its safe, lightweight Safe Two-Step Trolley enabling operatives to safely lift and deposit products on the top shelves of supermarket display units. For shorter people, or higher shelves there is a bigger version, the Safe Three-Step Trolley.
The unique brake mechanism on both these trolleys provides 100 per cent safety the minute an operative stands on the first step. Constructed from food grade aluminium square section with anti-slip step surfaces, the steps tuck neatly away within the trolley frame when not in use.
To accompany the trolleys, SMI also has a platform with similar safety features to hold bulky stock at a safe level to aid shelf filling. Facilities for suspending a bag for folded empty cardboard cartons can be provided.
